One Generation Away

One Generation Away is a nonprofit food rescue organization dedicated to combating food insecurity by salvaging high-quality surplus food from grocery stores, restaurants, farms, and caterers. Since 2003, One Generation Away has redistributed this rescued food to families and individuals facing hunger in local communities. By reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity, the organization supports sustainable hunger relief and community nourishment.

The Challenge

One Generation Away came to Mane Impact seeking a modern website that would authentically reflect their brand and mission while simplifying key actions like donations and volunteer sign-ups. With extensive existing content, they needed a design that was clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate, helping donors and volunteers find what they need quickly without feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, they required two distinct web presences: a comprehensive main site and a separate landing page for a new sub-brand that needed connected yet differentiated branding.

The Deliverables

  • Full website redesign of One Generation Away’s website, focusing on usability, visual hierarchy, and mission-driven storytelling.
  • Creation of a user-friendly, streamlined donation process and volunteer sign-up system.
  • Design and development of a branded landing page for the new sub-brand, aligned with the main site’s branding.
  • Content strategy and layout optimization to present extensive information clearly without clutter.
  • SEO best practices integrated to increase organic traffic and visibility.

“Working with Mane Impact took a lot of pressure off of the web design process.

As a small nonprofit in need of a website refresh, we were thrilled to find a designer who brought competence, creativity, and a competitive rate to the table.

We are very happy with the end result, which brings a fresh look and intuitive flow to our website while fitting well within our brand.”

Mission-Driven Website Design

Mane Impact crafted a clean, visually compelling website that would keep One Generation Away’s mission at the forefront, engaging donors and volunteers alike.

Key design choices included prominently featuring the event calendar on the homepage, enabling volunteers to quickly find and sign up for local events to streamline community involvement. High-impact donor recognition sections spotlighted major supporters, fostering transparency and appreciation. Clear calls-to-action (CTAs) for newsletter sign-ups and donation buttons encouraged ongoing communication and easy giving.

The design supported the nonprofit’s mission by creating an intuitive, emotionally resonant user experience that drove action and deepened community connection. On the technical side, the site integrated secure, user-friendly donation processing and volunteer management and CRM systems, ensuring seamless support for the organization’s critical operations.

Seamless Donation & Volunteer Experience

Mane Impact simplified and optimized the donation and volunteer sign-up processes to reduce friction and boost conversions. The website integrated secure payment gateways and automated receipt generation for donations, ensuring a trustworthy and smooth giving experience.

Volunteer sign-ups were connected directly to the event calendar, allowing real-time updates and instant confirmations. These technical features empowered One Generation Away to efficiently manage supporter engagement while providing donors and volunteers with a hassle-free experience that encouraged repeat participation.

Distinct Yet Cohesive Sub-Brand Presence

For One Generation Away’s new sub-brand, The Doorstep Pantry, we developed a dedicated landing page that balanced connection and differentiation to the existing, well-recognized brand. The design used a complementary color palette, typography, and imagery to maintain brand consistency while highlighting the sub-brand’s unique mission and offerings.

Technical elements include streamlined navigation between the sites and mobile responsiveness to maximize accessibility across devices. This approach supported the nonprofit’s expansion goals by clearly defining the sub-brand’s identity while reinforcing trust and recognition through visual ties to the main site.
